Bree Johnston is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Associate Chief for Geriatrics Education for the Division of Geriatrics. She has led educational programs for the Division of Geriatrics for the past twelve years.
Dr. Johnston is the Principle Investigator for the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation initiative at UCSF, Transitions in Geriatrics Care. Her interests include integrating geriatrics content into educational programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education levels. Her clinical activities are primarily based at the SF VAMC, where she works in the geriatrics clinic, medicine inpatient service, and the palliative care service. She has served on a number of national geriatrics educational task forces. Currently she is a Question Editor for the Geriatrics Review Syllabus 7th Edition and is an author of the Geriatrics Recent Advances Self Assessment Module for the American Board of Internal Medicine. As a former President of the California Physicians Alliance and Board Member for Physicians for a National Health Program, she has also been active in efforts to expand access to health insurance in the state of California.
Clinical Activities
Dr. Johnston currently spends most of her clinical time at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SF VAMC).
Dr. Johnston has been director of the Geriatrics Primary Care Clinic at the SF VAMC for the past 11 years.
Dr. Johnston serves as an Attending Physician on the SF VAMC inpatient medicine service 3-4 months each year.
Dr. Johnston serves on the palliative care service at the SF VAMC 4-8 weeks a year.
